Waah Chai is a digital chai adda from Indore — an interactive web experience where visitors explore a virtual Indian tapri (tea stall) rendered in pixel art. You can walk around the tapri, sit at stools, order and brew chai, chat with nearby visitors through proximity-based text and voice, listen to curated Hindi, Bollywood and ghazal music on Waah Chai Radio, play tabletop games like carrom and biscuit dunk, and collect stamps in your Chai Passport as you explore. It captures the warmth and spontaneity of sitting at a real neighbourhood chai adda.
Is it a game?
Waah Chai uses pixel-art visuals, avatar movement and mini-games (carrom, biscuit dunk), which gives it a game-like feel. However, it is fundamentally a social hangout — a digital chai adda. There is no win condition, no competitive ranking, and no storyline to complete. The games are social activities you do while hanging out, much like playing carrom at a real tapri. The XP and Chai Passport system rewards exploration and participation, not competition.
Is it free?
Waah Chai is free to use. All core experiences — walking around the tapri, chatting, voice chat, listening to radio, playing carrom and biscuit dunk, collecting Chai Passport stamps — are available at no cost. The Tapri Shop sells cosmetic items (avatar shirts, chai cups, decorations) for Chai Coins, which are an in-app currency earned through activities, not purchased with real money. There is no pay-to-win mechanic.
How do you enter?
To enter the Waah Chai tapri, simply visit waahchai.com in any modern web browser — desktop or mobile. You are placed inside the pixel-art tapri immediately as a guest with a randomly generated chai-themed name (like 'Kadak Pardesi' or 'Masaledar Yatri'). You can walk around using WASD keys or click/tap to move, and interact with objects by pressing E. No account creation, download, or installation is required. You can optionally sign in with your phone number or Google account for a persistent identity.
