Baat-Cheet (बात-चीत)

The essence of any chai adda is the conversation. At Waah Chai, communication is designed to feel natural and spatial, just like talking to people at a real tea stall.

Proximity Text Chat

Yes. Waah Chai has proximity-based text chat — you can message people who are near you in the tapri. You can also send direct whisper messages to specific people.

Waah Chai features a proximity-based chat system called Baat-Cheet. When you are near other visitors in the tapri, you can send text messages that they will see. The chat has different scopes — nearby chat for people around you, table chat when you are seated, and direct whisper messages to specific people. Conversations are ephemeral and not stored permanently, mirroring the transient nature of real tapri conversations.

Spatial Voice Chat

Yes. Waah Chai has spatial voice chat — hold V to talk and hear people near you in the tapri. Volume changes based on distance, like in real life.

Waah Chai supports spatial voice chat powered by LiveKit. When you join the adda, you can hold the V key to speak. Other visitors near you in the tapri will hear your voice, with volume that naturally decreases with distance — just like talking at a real chai adda. You can mute yourself, and the system shows who is speaking with visual indicators.
